Lapu-Lapu Monument also called Mactan Shrine

Lapu-Lapu’s statue is 20 meter high which is made of bronze located in the Mactan Shrine Park in Punta Egaño, Mactan Island, Cebu. The statue was being build to honor Rajah Lapu-Lapu , ruler of Mactan Island who defeated Ferdinand Magellan during the historic Battle of Mactan in 1521. Lapu-Lapu is a Cebuano hero who fight for freedom. His wearing a native costume with a sword of his right hand and a shield of his left hand.

If you plan to visit Cebu, better check Mactan Shrine to meet the famous legendary Cebuano hero(Lapu-Lapu’s Statue). The park includes Magellan Shrine and a covered structure that houses a huge mural painting of the Battle of Mactan. It is a large memorial tower built in 1866 to honor Ferdinand Magellan. It has been believed that Magellan is killed in the area where the tower built.

Every year a lot of foreign and local tourist visit here. The place is good, the ground is well kept. You can have your delicious seafood meal in one of some restaurants near in the shrine. Check out the the shell vendors outside the shrine. They sell a nice shellcraft that made from a pure shells.

HOW TO GET THERE

From Mactan-Cebu International Airport you can ride a taxi to drop you directly in Mactan Shrine or else you will ride a jeep( popularly known as multitab) with a signboard of Punta Egaño
